All participants add their ideas, inspired by virtual events held around the world by local organizers in each city. The city with the most ideas will receive the award for the most creative city.
Children
Solar trees (poles with a solar panel on top) could be used with talking books attached. These books play a chapter each day. Children would sit around them in groups to listen to the story, learn and answer questions / interact
Community, learning and inspiring imagination, cheap
Resources include a metal pole (3m) around £40, solar panel (type used for camping) £15, tablet (similar to Amazon Fire) £30-50, other parts (solder, connectors etc) £10.
The only resource we are unsure of is an internet connection. Smart meters in the UK connect to the internet periodically via DCC, a similar connection could be explored. These are very cost effective less than £1 a month. This would allow updating of the device. OR local champions could visit and update the devices.
We are a university and have a access to academics, lecturers and students to help bring ideas forward. We also have many business connections which we can partner up with if required.
I would lead/coordinate. My name is Karl McCormack. I am a Senior Lecturer in The Business School and a Pedagogic Innovator at Staffordshire University in the UK.
Short term: build prototypes, get business involved.
Long term: roll out to countries.
People learning together, kids sitting together in communities. Not just stories but health issues and key points raised
Developing countries
We are a university and have a access to academics, lecturers and students to help bring ideas forward. We also have many business connections which we can partner up with if required.
We also have the latest technology including 3d printers, CAD machines and specialist software. Faculties such as business, arts, mechanical engineering, architecture, bio science etc are able to come together to help bring an idea forward.
Each comnpleted pole costs around £125. This could be funded from international grants and development funds Funding for change of books (either internet based or by a local person).
