In the UK, NHS staff have to wear bin bags as PPE - following their complaint to the UK Government regarding the shortage of PPE. If this is the fate of an economically developed country, the crisis should be more catastrophic for the numerous other developing countries. If healthcare staff do not have acess to PPE, then how are they supposed to safely treat patients suffering from this deadly virus? Let us consider another problem: the millions who are not key workers are stuck at home - unable to work, earn money and feed themselves and their families. I have come up with 1 idea that will solve both of these problems: The ETMaS (Easy To Make Suits) Initiative.
ETMaS (Easy To Make Suits) is a community-driven initiative that seeks to make reusable PPE Suits with low cost, eco-friendly raw materials - in the comfort of their homes. These Suits cover the entire body, whilst being breathable and has a transparent, protective visor for seeing through too. The method for making the Suit is very easy for all ages to comprehend and carry out. Since it is low cost, the Governemnt don't have to worry too much about investing a lot in the manufacturing of PPE. The instructions to make the Suits are on a website, which has a community-based forum for support where everyone can interact with each other on difficulties etc. As individuals in communities make the Suits, they can sell them at a profitably low cost, so that they can earn substantial income to feed themselves and their families. ETMaS is also kid-friendly so the entire family can get involved in the DIY process, for maximium yield of Suits for use in Healthcare etc.
