Girls, parents
Recent research found that between 8 and 14 girls confidence plummets. The same research found that 8 out of 10 girls wanted to feel more confident. As educators and parents we have the opportunity to prevent internal confidence battles girls in particular go through. Sharing strong confident images of females has been shown to improve confident in girls and their grades with no impact on boys (strong images of males or 'inspirational' words have no impact on girls). My question is why are we not displaying images of strong powerful female role models.
I took this a stage further by having my year 5 (9 year old) students find confident women quotes. Michelle Obama "When girls are educated, their countries become stronger and more prosperous"; Louise May Alcott "I'm not afraid of storms, for I'm learning to sail my ship";
students then had to share it with their family, and present to the class and explain why they picked that quote and
