by using very cheap copper tape (used to stop slugs climbing pots in the garden) and placing it on paper in two rows (about 4cm apart), you can create ciruits. with a battery at the end (fold the paper diagonal in the corner so one copper tape on bottom of button battery and one copper tape on top), place an led light (either a 3mm or 5mm led or one cut from old Christmas lights) and connect it to each line of copper so it bridges. The light will light up. see how many light you can attach. then switches can be made, light up cards, in fact from then on the students can 'tinker' to discover what they can create. teachers can explain the positive and negative flow and how bridging creates a closed circuit. We can develop this further in the next round
the ability to explore and play safely , but cheaply too. it is the start of an exciting exploration of electronics.
