A Knowledge Treasure Hunt The idea is that 'knowledge' will be hidden in specific locations, and students need to work in small groups to determine where that knowledge is, and where it is hidden. This could be as big or small as you would like to make it - the bigger it is, the more opportunities for students to engage in new experiences and new locations. It could be applied in any area - you could link it to a specific discipline, or a specific location - but the key aspect is that students would need to undertake research to gain the knowledge to unlock the next location. They would also have specific 'rules' that they would need to adhere to (i.e. one leg of your journey must involve train travel, you must volunteer for at least one shift at one of the organisations you visit, etc.) to widen their experiences. You could develop this as a digital treasure hunt, to enable teams to work together from all over the world, to enhance digital skills and to reduce some cost/environmental impact, but a challenge where you work together to travel collectively to solve the mystery would probably be more impactful at enhancing confidence and social mobility.
The most important benefits are enabling students the opportunity to develop confidence and social mobility through exposure to different environments, whilst developing their knowledge in a creative and engaging way. In addition to these direct benefits, this idea could also have a positive impact on their community (through volunteering, knowledge exchange), providing them with opportunities to explore different communities and cultures and expanding their network.
