All participants add their ideas, inspired by virtual events held around the world by local organizers in each city. The city with the most ideas will receive the award for the most creative city.
This pathology relies on the functioning of applications: due to the notifications that are received continuously on the mobile device, users are in fact always and constantly connected, involved in hectic activities that actually take them away from real life.
The notification, the call that comes from WhatsApp or from social networks, leads to responding immediately, checking the news, and therefore to obsessive interaction.
Just look around: we are so passionate about our digital life that it often tends to overlap with the real one.
Mobile phone addiction leads to a constant need to interact with the main social applications installed on the phone. It is no coincidence that we also speak of addiction to social media or Facebook since the use of these services is a source of gratification, experienced through appreciation as a "like" or comments on what is published online.
A few numbers can help to better understand the phenomenon: it is estimated that about 80% of children, in the age group between 15 and 25 years, are addicted to smartphones. 50% also use the phone at the table, while 78% are also in bed.
To try to limit the damage and reduce addiction, it is first of all necessary to become aware of the type of relationship you have with your mobile phone.
Our idea is to bring children to establish greater social relationships through the radio, sharing practical and group activities.
With experience, we have gained that young people love to work together on a common project that is technological which leads them to communicate using their voices. Hence our "Teen Voices" project allows children to tell about themselves, and share their experiences and emotions in a relationship between equals.
Our task will be to train them and give them the space and tools to create multimedia content so that they can talk to each other and get out of the addiction to the screen.
The radio and the podcast to learn to listen and reconnect with the territory, with people and friends.
The percentage of minors in relative poverty in our territory in Sardinia is 22.8%, 2.4 points higher than
to the national average 47.7% of children and young people aged 6-17 who have a habit of reading books in their free time, share 4.2 points lower than the national average. In relation to digital educational poverty, the percentage of minors between the ages of 6 and 17 who are not use the Internet is 15.4%, 0.3 lower than the national average (source CRC 2021 Group - Working group for the Convention on the rights of the child and adolescence).
Our idea is to work in schools, social centers, and universities with the aim of bringing children to acquire technological skills to tell about the territory, the family, and the culture of the territory so that they can improve listening and therefore become aware of what happens around them.
Through the microphone, a recorder will then take care of creating multimedia content with their own comment inside.
In this way, they analyze what is happening around them.
The next step is to give them more autonomy in technology to create a peer-to-peer radio program. They will organize themselves in the editorial office, speakers, and technicians. In the programs, they will talk about culture, problems, their territory, concerts, and their passions.
The idea allows the participating children to improve their social relationships and reduce the time of use of social networks by being able to look at life with their eyes and not through multimedia devices.
The project aims to improve sociality between young people and adults, but also between peers.
It is a technological approach to regain possession of spaces and of one's own territory through a process of listening, sharing, and participation.
Digital skills allow us to navigate the present and plan our future.
To start the project we need some equipment. These include some basic tools for building a small broadcast studio without investing a fortune. We propose a minimum configuration in the project to be able to create and involve our target even at a distance, possibly with live broadcasts. This means that we should create and set up a place to manage playlists of music, jingles and any recordings before going on the air.
To start, we need a computer, microphones and software that allows us to manage the music and the audio stream.
I currently run a university youth radio within my city. Our Radio already has this equipment and software necessary to be able to work locally, in presence. The project aims at involving an additional audience that is far away and not in the same territory through a remote connection.
To be able to implement it it is necessary that there is a control room, or a central management studio that would be done by us in Cagliari. Once the central study has been prepared, it is necessary to set up external points.
Remote connections can be made through your mobile phone, with headphones and microphone and a specific app linked to our software or through apps such as Teams, Zoom or Skype, etc.
Participants will be able to see the radio playlist in real time and know when they have to speak on the radio.
Our idea is fully achievable thanks to our association that has been managing the university radio of Cagliari for over 10 years.
Our team is made up of experts from the radio sector:
- Carlo Pahler, technician and trainer with experience in streaming at European level;
- Simone Cavagnino, music journalist and head of our editorial head;
- Andrea Siddi, creative, music manager of the radio;
- Salvatore Uccheddu, speaker and lover of cinema and webseries.
The project can be activated in a short time through a process defined as follows:
1. Recruitment phase (1 months)
2. Training phase of the participants (1 week)
3. Setup phase of the equipment for the participants (2 days)
4. Starting of activities with participants (weekly appointments)
Our idea is not particularly innovative from a technological point of view when it is in the social process.
Our project allows youngs to talk to each other, debate, get involved and talk. Regain awareness of social interactions and get out of technological "addiction".
Our project can be immediately implemented within two regions with which our association collaborates.
In particular, it is possible to involve young people from two high schools spread over different territories: one in Alghero (Sardinia) and the other in Bergamo (Lombardy).
Boys and girls of the same age who live in different and distant territories who, thanks to technology, can compare, work together and finally get to know each other.
Our association and my technical skills are able to meet the technical needs necessary for the realization of the project. In particular, I have acquired over 10 years of experience in the telecommunications and media sector over time.
With the pandemic, we have seen computer and digital skills develop more and the audio-video encoding process improved. The project does not show particular technical problems at the feasibility level.
The process we are going to put in place is simple. We will connect two audio and video stations allowing young people to talk to each other and manage a radio program that will go live.
The project has been sustainable over the years as we rely on an existing structure within the territory that manages its own audio and music streaming licenses.
The costs of the project should be dedicated to the purchase of audio material such as USB microphones or portable PCs, if necessary, and / or audio adapters for your mobile phone and / or headphones.
Thanks to the involvement of a local association that manages the radio, it is possible to amortize many costs and keep the project sustainable for a long period.
Moreover, thanks to the agreements with high schools we are able to guarantee a continuous turnover of young people and to spread the project more and more locally and nationally.
